CEDAR HOUSE AND ATRIA CREATIVE
in the summer of 2016, we had recorded some demos with our friend, blake studdard, of atria creative. over the course of a week or two, we set up some mics and captured what our songs sounded like when we played them in a live acoustic setting. although it was just a quick experience, recording those demos with blake gave us a good idea that we'd love to work with him again.
for us, the beauty of music is the relationships that are created from it. whether you're listening to music, creating it, or sharing it, there's a something special that can happen. whether you want to call it the special sauce, good juju, or just plain ol' friendship, we're all about it.
so, once we actually decided to move forward with the ep, we felt out some options and knew pretty quickly that we wanted blake to be a part of the process with us. when he said yes, we were stoked.
thus began a lot of late nights.
since all of us were working other jobs, usually nine or ten in the evening was the best time to start recording. we'd fit in a session when we could and build each song, piece by piece. it can get pretty boring after a while, but having a good hang with friends always makes the grunt work worth it.
over the course of about six months, we came in late, set up makeshift recording areas, and breathed in the sweet, smoky smell of blake's palo santo incense. (unintentionally, that palo santo stuff has pretty much become the main smell that we remember this ep by). sometimes we were excited, sometimes we were just tired, but pretty much every time we got together to record with blake, we had a great time and came away more encouraged about this ep.
it's never fun having to wait to share stuff you're excited about, but we think that it's worth the wait.
tomorrow, we'll take you through the life cycle of our song, jilted lover, from demo to distribution, so be sure to check your inbox for the link.
p.s. if you want to want to get to know blake more and hear us chat with him about the recording process while we drink some cheap wine, check out the episode of our podcast, cedar house wine club, that we recorded with him!
